Alaa Abd-Elsayed, MD, MPH, FASA

Member, Research Committee

Alaa Abd-Elsayed, MD, MPH, FASA, is a member of the Research Committee of the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience (ASPN). He is Medical Director of the Pain Management Clinic at UW Health and a professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison. He is board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine.

Dr. Abd-Elsayed earned his medical degree from Assiut University in Egypt along with a Master of Public Health, and completed residency training in anesthesiology and fellowship training in pain medicine at the University of Cincinnati. His clinical practice treats chronic pain of the back, neck, knees, shoulders, and hips, and he uses neuromodulation to manage neuropathic pain. His research centers on interventional procedures, including electrical stimulation and sacroiliac joint treatment.

A prolific author, he has published more than 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts and edited more than 25 books. He has contributed to ASPN consensus work, including the PEAK guidelines for neuromodulation in fellowship and training programs, and he was appointed to the Wisconsin Medical Examining Board.
