Alane Costanzo, MD, serves as Chair of the ASPN Military Leadership Council for the American Society of Pain & Neuroscience. She is a board-certified anesthesiologist with subspecialty certification in pain medicine, practicing in San Diego, California. Dr. Costanzo serves as Associate Program Director of the Pain Medicine Fellowship at Naval Medical Center San Diego and holds a faculty appointment as Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), reflecting her leadership within military graduate medical education.
Dr. Costanzo earned her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in 2004, completed her anesthesiology residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, and completed fellowship training in pain medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, where she held the Longwood Fellow position. Her clinical practice spans multidisciplinary and regenerative approaches to chronic pain management, including work with Regenexx orthobiologic procedures, with particular focus on spine, hip, and knee conditions.
Within ASPN, Dr. Costanzo has been recognized for her service to military pain medicine, receiving the Chairman’s Armed Forces Service Award. She is also a regular contributor to ASPN’s annual meeting, where she has led wellness-focused sessions for attendees in addition to her leadership and clinical-education responsibilities. Colleagues describe her as an outstanding physician dedicated to whole-person wellness in the care of patients with chronic pain, and she holds an Associate Master Clinician distinction recognizing her teaching and clinical excellence.
