Christopher Lam, MD, serves as Assistant Vice President of Compliance for the American Society of Pain & Neuroscience (ASPN), part of the organization’s leadership team. He is an interventional pain physician and anesthesiologist at the University of Kansas Health System, where he holds an academic appointment in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pain and Perioperative Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center. His clinical practice focuses on minimally invasive, non-narcotic interventional treatments for chronic pain, including spinal cord stimulation and other neuromodulation techniques.
Dr. Lam earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, following undergraduate study in chemistry at the same institution. He completed a general surgery residency at UNC Healthcare System, an anesthesiology residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania, and a fellowship in interventional pain medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He is board certified in both Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
His research interests span drug discovery, the biomolecular and cell-signaling mechanisms of pain, pain genetics, medical device development and validation, treatment-outcome assessment, and cancer pain management. He has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on topics including spinal cord stimulation, peripheral nerve stimulation, sacroiliac joint fusion, and pudendal neuralgia management, and has contributed to ASPN’s evidence-based clinical guidelines on interventional pain treatments. Within ASPN, he has also served as a Co-Chair (2022–2023) and as a member of the Scientific Committee. He is additionally affiliated with the North American Neuromodulation Society and the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
