David Dickerson, MD
David M. Dickerson, MD, FASA, serves the American Society of Pain & Neuroscience as a Director at Large and Assistant Vice President of Fellow Education. He is a double board-certified anesthesiologist and pain medicine physician who serves as Division Chief of Pain Medicine at Endeavor Health, a nine-hospital integrated health system in the Chicago area, where he was named the inaugural holder of the system’s first Endowed Chair of Pain Medicine, established through a $10 million philanthropic gift supporting expanded clinical facilities, research, and an advanced scholars training program. He also holds an appointment as Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.
Dr. Dickerson earned his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, completed his internship and anesthesiology residency at the University of Chicago Hospitals, and completed a pain medicine fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. He is board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine.
His clinical and research interests center on complex pain conditions, opioid-sparing perioperative care, image-guided interventional procedures, and neuromodulation, and he authored a system-wide practice advisory on safe opioid prescribing. He has contributed more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters to the anesthesiology and pain medicine literature, including work on perioperative pain management consensus guidelines and the pathophysiology of pain and neuromodulation.
Beyond ASPN, Dr. Dickerson chaired the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ Committee on Pain Medicine from 2020 to 2024 and has served as a faculty member and clinical advisor for organizations including the National MALS Foundation and the Rx and Illicit Drug Summit.
