Dawood Sayed, MD, is Vice Chairman and Co-Founder of the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience (ASPN), which he established in 2018 alongside Timothy Deer, MD, to create a forum for scientific exchange and innovation in pain medicine and neuroscience.

Dr. Sayed is Professor of Anesthesiology, Pain and Perioperative Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he serves as Division Chief of Pain Medicine, Director of Interventional Spine Services, and Director of the Center for Neuromodulation. A national expert in chronic and acute pain arising from spinal and nerve disorders, his practice focuses on leading-edge, minimally invasive treatments that relieve pain and restore function, including spinal cord stimulation, minimally invasive lumbar decompression (MILD), and interspinous spacer procedures for spinal stenosis.

Dr. Sayed earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, completed residency training in anesthesiology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, and completed fellowship training in pain medicine at the Weill Cornell Tri-Institute in New York. He is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in both anesthesiology and pain medicine.

An author of more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Sayed served as lead author of ASPN’s evidence-based clinical guideline on interventional treatments for low back pain, published in the Journal of Pain Research, and leads clinical trials evaluating neuromodulation and spinal therapies. His honors include the 2025 Presidential Award from the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS). He also serves on national AMA CPT and NANS advocacy committees and speaks and teaches internationally on advanced treatments for painful disorders.
