Eric Cornidez, MD, MBA, serves as Vice Chair, Diversity and Outreach for the American Society of Pain & Neuroscience (ASPN). He is a managing partner and Chief Medical Officer at the Pain Institute of Southern Arizona, a practice serving the Tucson, San Tan Valley, and Benson, Arizona communities, and holds an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona.
Dr. Cornidez earned his medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine and completed a transitional-year internship at the University of Arizona College of Medicine–Tucson. He then trained in anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, where he served as the program’s first Chief Resident in Anesthesiology, and completed a fellowship in interventional pain medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. He later earned an Executive MBA from the Eller College of Business at the University of Arizona. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, board certified in both anesthesiology and pain medicine, and fellowship trained in interventional pain management.
His clinical and research interests center on interventional pain management and neuromodulation, and he has served as a consultant, investigator, and instructor in these techniques. He is a co-author of “Pathophysiology of Pain and Mechanisms of Neuromodulation: A Narrative Review (A Neuron Project),” published in the Journal of Pain Research (2024). Beyond ASPN, he serves on the boards of the Pacific Spine and Pain Society and the Arizona Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.
Dr. Cornidez is active in his local community, serving on the executive boards of the Tucson Metro Chamber and the American Heart Association. His community honors include a 40 Under 40 Achievement Award, the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s 2019 Businessman of the Year award, and an Outstanding Community Service Award from the U.S. Department of Justice.
