Jay S. Grider, DO, PhD, MBA, serves as VP of Guidelines for the American Society of Pain & Neuroscience (ASPN), where he has contributed as an author to several of the society’s evidence-based clinical guidelines, including its guideline on interventional treatments for low back pain. He is Chief Physician Executive of UK HealthCare and CEO of the Kentucky Medical Services Foundation, and holds an academic appointment as Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington.
Dr. Grider earned a bachelor’s degree in natural science from Georgetown College, a DO from Ohio University, a PhD in physiology from the University of Kentucky, and an MBA from the University of Tennessee’s Haslam College of Business. He completed a transitional-year internship at The Ohio State University, followed by an anesthesiology residency and a pain medicine fellowship, both at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, board-certified in both anesthesiology and pain medicine.
His clinical and research interests center on neuromodulation and interventional treatments for chronic and low back pain, including spinal cord stimulation and dorsal root ganglion stimulation. He has authored or co-authored peer-reviewed work in this space, including systematic reviews of spine neurostimulation therapies and consensus recommendations on spinal cord stimulation technique, and has lectured nationally and internationally on neuromodulation, interventional pain techniques, and opioid pharmacology. Beyond ASPN, he serves on the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure.
