Her clinical practice focuses on the diagnosis and minimally invasive treatment of spine and joint pain, including sciatica, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, arthritis, post-surgical pain, headaches, and neuropathic conditions, using advanced techniques such as neurostimulation (dorsal root ganglion, spinal cord, and peripheral nerve stimulation), radiofrequency ablation, and minimally invasive lumbar decompression. She has described a particular interest in caring for patient populations that have historically experienced disparities in medical care, including women and people of color.

Within the American Society of Pain & Neuroscience, Dr. Akuamoah serves as Vice Chair of the Diversity and Outreach Leadership Council, a role she has described as reflecting a progression “from engaged member to panelist, moderator, and now Vice-Chair of the Diversity Committee.” She has participated as a presenter for ASPN diversity-focused programming, including the “Diversity in December” webinar series.
