Bio
Melissa Z. Murphy, MD, MPH, is a fellowship-trained, double board-certified interventional pain specialist practicing at North Texas Orthopedic & Spine Center in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, with clinic locations in Grapevine and Keller/Alliance (Fort Worth), Texas. She serves as Treasurer on the Executive Board of the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience (ASPN) for the 2025–2027 term, and chairs ASPN’s Poster to Podium (P2P) program, a 12-month mentorship initiative that develops early-career physicians into future leaders in interventional pain and neuroscience. In 2024, ASPN honored her with its Young Innovator award.
Dr. Murphy earned a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Vanderbilt University, her medical degree from the Texas Tech University Paul L. Foster School of Medicine in El Paso, and a Master of Public Health from The University of Texas School of Public Health. She completed her anesthesiology residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and a pain medicine fellowship at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago. She is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in both anesthesiology and pain medicine, and holds hospital affiliation with Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Grapevine.
Her clinical practice centers on advanced, evidence-based pain therapies — including spinal cord stimulation, dorsal root ganglion stimulation, radiofrequency ablation, basivertebral nerve ablation, kyphoplasty, targeted drug delivery, and spine tumor ablation — for conditions ranging from neck and low-back pain to complex regional pain syndrome, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, and cancer-related pain. A clinical trial investigator, national speaker, and mentor to pain medicine fellows, she also serves as Chair of Innovation and Growth on the United Musculoskeletal Partners National Leadership Board. Her peer-reviewed publications span spinal cord stimulation technology, neuromodulation best practices, consensus guidelines for fellowship training, and AI-integrated remote patient monitoring in chronic pain care, including contributions to an ASPN workgroup publication on intervertebral disc anatomy and treatment.
