Michael J. Dorsi, MD, serves as a Director at Large for the American Society of Pain & Neuroscience (ASPN). He is a board-certified neurosurgeon and Assistant Professor / HS Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where he also serves as Director of Community Neurosurgery. He practices in the Ventura County, California area, where he has cared for patients since 2012.

Dr. Dorsi earned a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with highest honors, and went on to earn his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed his surgical internship and neurosurgery residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, followed by a spine fellowship at the UCLA School of Medicine and a research fellowship with the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine at UCLA studying spinal cord injury and stem cell transplantation. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.

His clinical and research focus centers on minimally invasive and robotic spine surgery, spinal cord stimulation and neuromodulation for chronic pain, peripheral nerve surgery, and lumbar and cervical spine disorders. He has co-authored ASPN best-practice and consensus guidelines, including 2024–2025 work on sacroiliac joint disorder treatment and on neurostimulation for non-surgical low back pain, alongside contributions to the broader pain and spine surgery literature.

In 2025, ASPN named Dr. Dorsi its Neurosurgeon of the Year. He also serves as President/Founder of the Sierra Spine Society and as President-elect of the Pacific Spine and Pain Society.
