Natalie H. Strand, MD, serves as Vice President of Compliance for the American Society of Pain & Neuroscience (ASPN). She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Pain Medicine, at Mayo Clinic Arizona, where she also serves as Director of Pain Research and Director of Neuromodulation. Dr. Strand earned her medical degree from Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, completed a transitional-year internship, and trained in anesthesiology residency at UCLA before returning to Mayo Clinic for fellowship training in interventional pain medicine. She is board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine.

Dr. Strand’s clinical practice takes a comprehensive approach to chronic pain, combining interventional techniques—including spinal cord stimulation, intrathecal pump therapy, and radiofrequency ablation—with medication management, lifestyle modification, and psychological support. Her research centers on neuromodulation and evidence-based interventional pain care, and she has contributed to ASPN’s clinical practice guidelines, including consensus recommendations on interventional treatment of low back pain and the interventional management of cancer-associated pain. Her scholarship also includes widely cited work on pain management during the COVID-19 pandemic. She is active in training Mayo Clinic’s pain medicine fellows and speaks regularly at national pain medicine conferences.

In 2020, ASPN recognized Dr. Strand with the Lisa Stearns, MD Legacy Diversity Award, honoring her work championing diversity and inclusion within the pain medicine community.
