ASPN Mission

Our Purpose

As we move forward in this tremendous era of innovation in the fields of pain and neuroscience, it provides a prime opportunity for those of us committed to improving patient outcomes, safety, and cost effectiveness to come together with a common voice. The American Society of Pain and Neuroscience (ASPN) was founded to create a new forum for scientific exchange and thought provoking discussion amongst experienced physicians, those in training, and emerging leaders in the field.

The society has a mission to improve education, highlight scientific curiosity, establish best practice, and to elevate each other in a quest to improve the field. By this combined effort, we can foster a new sense of cooperation, collaboration, and can be a part of the solution to societal issues such as the opioid crisis, increasing disability, lack of diversity, and mixed messages about the prevailing goals of those of us striving to improve the field.

Our Structure

ASPN is a society composed of a diverse membership that embraces input from all members regardless of age, gender, and ethnicity. Our various leadership boards play an integral role in the direction of ASPN.

Young Innovators

A committee compromised of students, residents, fellows, and early career clinicians. The Young Innovators committee plays a crucial role in the development of the current and future generation of clinician scientists in the fields of Pain and Neuroscience.

Executive Board

The Executive Board of ASPN functions to govern all aspects of the society. Executive Board members are peer selected and called to function in various duties including medical policy, practice guideline development, meeting planning, and advocacy.

Emeritus Board

A committee compromised of the experienced thought leaders in the field. The emeritus committee serves ASPN by guiding us through major clinical initiatives, meeting planning, inter-society relations, and mentorship of the future generation of clinician scientists.
